Pokémon Go Ditto disguises list for January 2025

Image
Ditto is an elusive Pokémon in Pokémon Go , as it disguises itself and you can’t actually just catch one straight-up. In order to find Ditto, you’ll want to find the Pokémon that it currently disguises itself as. For example, you may see a Diglett, and it’ll stay a Diglett once you tap on it, but it’s secretly a Ditto. Once you catch that Pokémon, you’ll be met with an “Oh?” prompt, and it’ll turn into a Ditto — if you’re lucky. Ditto’s chosen disguises changes from time to time, so you’ll want to make sure you know what the disguises are currently if you’re Ditto hunting — especially if you are after a shiny. Below, we’ve listed out the current Ditto disguises in Pokémon Go for January 2025 . Pokémon Go Ditto disguises in January 2025 As of Dec. 18, 2023 — following the Adamant Times event — Ditto can currently be any of the following Pokémon in Pokémon Go: Oddish (Gen 1, Kanto) Koffing (Gen 1, Kanto) Rhyhorn (Gen 1, Kanto) Goldeen (Gen 1, Kanto) Spinarak (Gen 2, J...

Pokémon Go Giovanni counters, team line-up in January 2025

Image
Giovanni’s team had a refresh in Pokémon Go following the arrival of the summer “ Galarian Expedition: Taken Over ” event. As it stands in January 2025 , following an update rolled out on Oct. 8, Giovanni’s team sees several possibilities, including a finale against Heatran , the latest legendary to see the Shadow treatment. For those who want to catch Shadow Heatran, try to get it done sooner than later, as there will likely be another Team Rocket refresh in coming months that’ll swap out the legendary for a new one. However, know that whenever you face Giovanni, he’s a tough opponent to battle, and this page will list out his current team and counters if you’re having trouble. How to find Giovanni in Pokémon Go Team Go Rocket boss Giovanni is typically only available to battle while completing Team Go Rocket Special Research. We get a new set of this type of research every few months, typically with a new Shadow legendary Pokémon as a reward at the very end. From early Oct...

Pokémon Go Max Monday and Max Battle schedule for January 2025

Image
Knowing the Max Battle schedule is useful if you’re looking to expand your inventory of Dynamax Pokémon in Pokémon Go . It does appear that Niantic will start rotating Pokémon in and out of Max Battles on a month-by-month basis, with some event Pokémon littered in. There are also Max Mondays, a weekly event similar to raid hour, where one Pokémon will show up more frequently in power spots from 6-7 p.m. That said, you’ll want a healthy amount of Dynamax Pokémon in your team if you choose to divulge in the feature, as only Dynamax Pokémon can participate in Max Raids. (So you’re pretty much catching Pokémon to help you catch more Pokémon.) Notably, if you’re just starting out with Max Battles, you should have a “To the Max!” Special Research set that starts you off with a Dynamax Wooloo. Below, we list the currently available Dynamax Pokémon that you can score from Max Battles in Pokémon Go . Pokémon Go Max Monday line up for January 2025 These Pokémon will show up in power s...

Fitness Boxing 3 can and should kick your ass

Image
Boxing is a full-body workout. Deceptively so — you’re just moving your arms, how tough could it be, right? But if you’re throwing a punch correctly, you’re putting your entire body into that motion. A boxing punch should involve a whole set of simultaneous movements that engage your legs, your core, your shoulders, and your arms. Fitness Boxing 3 cannot offer the same experience as an in-person trainer correcting your every move. But it does provide a series of easy-to-learn routines and daily workouts that ramp up into a regimen that could whip you into shape about as well as attending regular in-person group boxing classes. As the first paragraph demonstrates, I’ve taken in-person boxing lessons. (Before I got into boxing, I also taught karate professionally for years; I have a black belt in Uechi-Ryū.) So, I have a lot of opinions about martial arts training. It should therefore come as no surprise that I would recommend you take at least one in-person boxing class if you want ...

Defunctland’s Disney park videos are so good, I had to ration them out

Image
For someone who’s really into theme parks , Disney history , and the stories behind childhood favorites , I became a Defunctland fan far too late — but I’m so glad I did. The channel has a wonderful spread of videos, from the feature-length documentary-style ones that the channel is primarily known for to the shorter, quicker bite-sized dives into beloved educational children’s programming. Every video on Defunctland, created by Kevin Perjurer, is sharp and funny and also incredibly informative. And every single one of those appeals to my interests, to the point where once I started watching, I had to ration them out so I didn’t just blitz through the channel all at once.  While many rave about the FastPass deep dive (which is so good!) or the investigation into who made the Disney Channel theme song (which might just make you cry!), my personal favorite has to be the story behind t he American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  For many years, Hollyw...

Every movie and show coming to Netflix in January

Image
Even with Netflix’s recommendation algorithm serving you new movies, new TV shows, and original programming tailored to your viewing habits, the streaming service’s fire hose of content makes what’s coming difficult to parse. The Netflix back catalogue is delivering this month — there’s the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy ; Love Actually , in case you’re still in the Christmas movie spirit; Interstellar and Inceptio n for a Nolan double-feature; the live-action Scooby-Doo movies , which you can pair with I Know What You Did Last Summer to really appreciate; the Rush Hour movies, the Meet the Parents movies, and so much more. Oh, and when it comes to Netflix originals, we have a new Philomena Cunk on the way, a second season of the absolutely unhinged XO, Kitty , and a new Wallace and Gromit! Editor’s Pick: 13 Going on 30 Director : Gary Winick Cast:  Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer, Andy Serkis 13 Going on 30 is one of the best romantic comedies of the 2000s. Jen...

Can Togetic be shiny in Pokémon Go?

Image
Togetic, the happiness Pokémon from Johto, can be found in the wild in Pokémon Go . Yes, Togetic can be shiny in Pokémon Go ! Togekiss is a great fairy-type attacker, as it has bulk and a decent moveset. It also does see use in PvP, meaning grabbing a ton of Togetic to check their IVs is a worthwhile endeavor. What is the shiny rate for Togetic in Pokémon Go? As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine ), the shiny rate for Pokémon on a regular day is approximately one in 500. Togetic is not a confirmed Pokémon that gets a “permaboost” (meaning that it’s a rare spawn and thus gets a boosted shiny rate). What can I do to attract more shiny Pokémon? Not much, unfortunately. It appears to be random chance. Shiny Pokémon catch rates are set by developer Niantic, and they are typically only boosted during special events like Community Days or Safari Zones, or in Legendary Raids. There are no consumable items that boost shiny Pokémon rates. W...

How classic board game Clue changed over its more than 75-year history

Image
Clue , the murder-mystery board game, has been a staple of game nights and big-box store shelves for as long as we can remember. In fact, 2024 marks Clue ’s 75th anniversary. First released as Clue in the United States in 1949 by Parker Brothers, the game has sold more than 150 million copies and is listed as the second-most-popular board game in the world behind Monopoly (and not including chess and checkers), according to Hasbro, which bought Parker Brothers in 1991. But Clue ’s story doesn’t actually start in 1949. The game dates back even further, all the way to the second World War. To learn about its origins and future, we spoke with Hasbro’s resident Clue expert — and senior vice president of board games — Brian Baker. [ Ed. note: This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.] Polygon: How did Clue come to be? Brian Baker: We’re going to have to go all the way back to 1943. That’s when the story begins, with a musician named Anthony Pratt. He was a piano ...

Forget Yule logs, you want 12 hours of lo-fi shrimp to relax to

Image
There are many museums, zoos, botanic gardens, and other institutions that are good at translating their educational and preservational assets to social media. And then there’s the Monterey Bay Aquarium and its oceanic lo-fi livestreams.  Monterey Bay is an internationally respected aquarium that real nerdy-ass fuckin’ nerds will know as the shot-on-location stand-in for the Maritime Cetacean Institute as featured in Star Trek IV: The One With the Whales . But tucked away in California’s central coast, a drive of two hours or more from the closest big city, San Francisco, it’s on the museum’s staff to make their institution accessible to the wide world that might never visit.  And Monterey Bay’s YouTube team? They’re doing impeccable work. Getting scientists to stream sea-themed video games that run the gamut from chill scuba diving sim Endless Ocean Luminous to the “ crustacean-themed ‘Soulslike’ ” Another Crab’s Treasure . Chill model-painting streams of 3D-printed sea...

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s first trailer is a blast from an alternate past

Image
Disney unveiled the first trailer for its long-awaited, MCU-adjacent animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Sunday, on the heels of its big What If…? series finale . Produced by Marvel Animation and Polygon Pictures ( Knights of Sidonia , Kaina of the Great Snow Sea ), the series will center on Peter Parker’s early days as Spider-Man, but with a twist: the show will take place in an alternate universe where Norman Osborn, not Tony Stark, will become the young web-slinger’s mentor. The trailer shows Peter in his early days, rotating through costumes, visiting Oscorp, and waxing poetic on the responsibilities of heroes. And it’s all done in retro fashion. Announced back in 2021 as Spider-Man: Freshman Year , Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was initially pitched as a series that would explore the origin story of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, which was never fully detailed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plans have changed slightly, but the series still appear...

Watching this YouTuber restore old consoles is oddly satisfying

Image
YouTube channel Odd Tinkering doesn’t hold many surprises — other than the disbelief at how good the consoles, controllers, and keyboards they restore look when the work is done. What starts as a broken, dirty Game Boy Color in this video becomes a crisp, clean handheld fit to be a 1998 Christmas present. The creator, seemingly based in Finland, keeps their name off their channel — but that doesn’t mean they’re totally mysterious to fans. Subscribers often send in their water-damaged, Cheeto-finger-stained, cracked gaming devices to be repaired, and the process is satisfying and nostalgic. (That makes this channel a great stoned watch, by the way.) It seems like the person restoring the items is a true gamer, too — some of the projects are deep cuts, like the Pokémon Mini . The depth of knowledge around preserving and restoring sometimes sensitive materials, like processing chips and porous plastic, is a huge part of the fun with Odd Tinkering’s videos. That, and the interesting ca...

Polygon video picks Polygon’s favorite Polygon videos

Image
We know you watched a few videos this year, but did you watch a few Polygon videos this year? To celebrate another year in the can, the Polygon video team gave each producer the chance (…and assignment) to shout out their favorite work from 2024 to give you an idea of where to dive in. Clayton Ashley The Great Game: The Making of Spycraft This video is more like my favorite of the last three years, because my colleague Simone de Rochefort and I worked on it at least that long. The Great Game: The Making of Spycraft is a feature-length documentary about the titular video game Spycraft: The Great Game . That big-budget, full-motion 1996 video game featured both a former KGB major general, Oleg Kalugin, and a former CIA director, William Colby. The parallel stories of two titans of Cold War espionage, and the making of a technology-pushing game, became too fascinating to ignore. Working on this video was unlike anything else I’ve done at Polygon. When I threw out the idea t...

‘Outside In’ makes a complex math concept fun and approachable

Image
When it comes to good YouTube videos, I’m biased in favor of content made explicitly for the platform: media critiques , long-form investigations , and pointless tests of human endurance . “ Outside In ” is an exception. This educational video comes from a strange and distant land: the 1990s. Based on the mathematical concept of sphere inversion, it should be incredibly boring. The graphics are rudimentary, the narrators completely faceless, and again, the topic is incomprehensible math . Nothing about this video should be compelling… and yet it has amassed well over 10 million views across numerous uploads on YouTube. Credit goes to the creative team at The Geometry Center for making a video that manages the impossible: It makes mathematics interesting. While I’d love to think the video’s success hinges on the MASTER ILLUSIONIST in the credits, I think the real stars are the voice-overs provided by Karen McNenny and Paul de Cordova. Their conversational discussion of high-level g...
