2020's X-Men movie New Mutants is better than you remember

The Fox X-Men film series was no stranger to wild swings in quality. Two of the seminal 21st-century superhero films, X-Men and X2, were followed up by the complete duds X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. (Wild swings in quality may be an understatement.) The franchise petered out by the late 2010s, largely due to lackluster films (pray you’re never forced to sit through X-Men: Dark Phoenix) and a waning interest from an audience that was more excited about the potential of new X-Men joining the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Perhaps no film was given the short end of the stick like New Mutants, which was released five years ago.
